In 2026, Goodwill SWFL marks a major milestone – 60 years of transforming lives and strengthening communities across Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades, and Hendry counties. Since its incorporation on June 15, 1966, Goodwill SWFL has grown into one of the region’s most trusted nonprofit organizations, now helping nearly 25,000 Southwest Floridians each year through donated goods and mission-driven programs.

From the beginning, Goodwill SWFL has focused on expanding opportunity for people facing barriers to independence. That mission continues today through workforce development, digital skills training, small business support, and disability services. Each program is designed to help people gain confidence, build stability, and move toward self-sufficiency.

MEETING CRITICAL NEEDS

Goodwill SWFL identifies gaps in community services and steps in to fill them, offering essential support when and where it’s needed most. After immediate needs are addressed, individuals are encouraged to build long-term skills through training programs – funded in part by the sale of donated goods.

At the center of this work are Goodwill’s Community Resource Centers (CRCs). With six locations and a mobile unit, CRCs provide résumé assistance, digital literacy training, ESL and citizenship classes, and wrap-around support for unemployment, disability navigation, and disaster recovery. Partnerships with more than 50 nonprofit and business organizations create a seamless network of care.

Digital skills training allows learners to gain confidence and new capabilities. Some individuals may earn free laptops, while others obtain Google Generative AI certificates, equipping them with emerging, in-demand skills that strengthen their competitiveness in today’s workforce.

SUPPORTING LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS

Goodwill’s MicroEnterprise Institute continues to fuel economic mobility. Since 2010, more than 1,200 graduates have launched or strengthened 700+ small businesses across Southwest Florida. Participants leave with a feasibility plan, practical business knowledge, and a network of mentors.

LEADING IN DISABILITY SERVICES

Goodwill SWFL is also a regional leader in disability support. The Pathways to Opportunity program provides life-skills training for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, offering classes in self-advocacy, cooking, and financial literacy. The Disability Navigation program connects families with critical resources, especially during crisis situations

RETAIL STORES THAT POWER THE MISSION

Goodwill’s retail stores do more than offer affordable shopping – they help fund the mission. Every donation and purchase reinvests directly into local programs, creating a cycle of hope and opportunity. With almost 1,100 employees and recognition as one of Southwest Florida’s Top 100 Employers, Goodwill is expanding its retail footprint. This year alone, three new retail stores will open, including a blue Boutique in Naples, a second Lehigh Acres location, and a rebuilt Port Charlotte store to replace the one lost during Hurricane Ian. Additionally, the Punta Gorda store is relocating to a larger, more accessible site.

HONORING THE PAST, BUILDING THE FUTURE

Goodwill SWFL’s 60th anniversary celebrates every donor, shopper, volunteer, partner, and supporter who has fueled six decades of impact. Your donations change lives, helping individuals rebuild, grow, and thrive. Here’s to 60 years of opportunity – and to the next chapter of strengthening Southwest Florida together.
