The Fort Myers Police Department is getting a new home, and the city is inviting neighbors to watch the first shovel go in the ground.

The City of Fort Myers and FMPD will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, September 22 at 10 a.m. at 2150 Fowler Street. City leaders, FMPD representatives and project partners will all take part.

The new headquarters will give the department a modern, central place to work. The city says the building is meant to support FMPD operations, its people, and the service the department provides to the city.

The ceremony is open to the public and to the media. No ticket is needed.
