Goodwill Southwest Florida Store Opens in Former Muscle Car City

Goodwill Southwest Florida celebrated the grand opening of its new Punta Gorda thrift store July 30 at 10175 Tamiami Trail, the former home of the Muscle Car City Museum. A crowd of more than 250 people showed up for the ribbon cutting.

The relocation from Goodwill’s previous store at 3415 Tamiami Trail adds about 4,000 square feet of retail space and brings new activity to Seminole Lakes Plaza. The new location includes 13,900 square feet of retail space within a 31,200-square-foot building leased by Goodwill.

The site was previously occupied by the Muscle Car City Museum, which permanently closed Jan. 17, 2021. The property had remained vacant since the museum’s closure.

The new store expands Goodwill Southwest Florida’s presence in Charlotte County while providing shoppers with a larger retail environment, better parking, and a more convenient donation drop off area on the right end of the plaza.

In January 2025, the plaza’s main building was acquired by Harborview Capital Group for $6.5 million. The purchase led to extensive renovations and the recruitment of Goodwill Southwest Florida as the property’s anchor tenant.

Goodwill’s former Punta Gorda location will temporarily close for remodeling and is expected to reopen in the coming weeks as an Outlet Express store. The new format will offer by-the-pound pricing on clothing, housewares, linens and other donated goods.
