Alliance for the Arts invites the community to experience a vibrant new month of exhibitions with three new shows opening this August through September, showcasing an eclectic mix of contemporary fiber arts, fine crafts, evocative mixed-media abstraction, and dynamic local photography.
The exhibitions will be on display from August 7 through September 26, 2026. The public is invited to celebrate the artists at a free opening reception on Friday, August 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres for the evening will be graciously catered by Jayne and Brian Baker, with special remarks scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Stepping into the Main Gallery, visitors will be immersed in a tactile feast of color and texture with a joint exhibition featuring brand-new works by the members of Art Quilters United (AQU) and the South-West Florida Fine Craft Guild (SWFFCG). This dynamic collaboration brings together two of the region’s premier creative collectives to push the boundaries of tradition. AQU, an organization dedicated to elevating contemporary quilting and fiber arts, pairs seamlessly with the Fine Craft Guild, which celebrates an impressive 53-year legacy of fostering originality in local craftspeople. Together, their members will display a stunning variety of media that ranges from intricate art quilts and collages to fused glass, custom jewelry, stone sculptures, and imaginative assemblages.
The creative journey continues into the Theatre Gallery with Selected Works by N.C. Hagood, a collection of atmospheric, dreamlike pieces. Ecuador-born and New York-raised artist Nancy Hagood guides viewers into a subconscious landscape where figures suspend like clouds and faces live between forms. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Hagood begins each canvas with raw, instinctive marks, building layers of paint and paper that allow the composition to transform organically. Her award-winning abstract work intentionally leaves perfection aside to honor the visible “hand of the artist.” It is a visual exploration deeply rooted in personal memories and the quiet, universal connections that bind humanity together. As Hagood beautifully notes, “Sharing the soul through creativity is a great feeling and it happens every time one creates.”
Rounding out the late-summer lineup, the Member Gallery plays host to Snap2, a curated photography exhibition that highlights the incredible talent of the Alliance’s own member artists. Capturing the world through diverse lenses, this showcase spans everything from striking Southwest Florida wildlife to thought-provoking conceptual photography, offering a testament to the rich photographic talent.
